Dario Essugo, a young Portuguese midfielder currently on loan at UD Las Palmas from Sporting CP, has become a rising star in La Liga this season.
His performances have not only transformed Las Palmas’ fortunes but have also placed him firmly in the spotlight of two of football’s biggest clubs, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
According to reports from Fichajes, the 19-year-old is now at the centre of an intense transfer battle between the two Spanish giants.
Essugo’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite his age, the midfielder has shown composure, skill, and maturity on the pitch, making him one of the standout players of the campaign.
Under the guidance of Diego Martinez, Las Palmas have enjoyed an impressive resurgence, with Essugo playing a pivotal role in their midfield.
This has led to widespread recognition, and European clubs are now eyeing him as a long-term investment.

What makes Essugo particularly appealing is his potential combined with his relatively accessible release clause, which stands at €60 million.
For a club like Real Madrid, such a fee is within reach, especially for a player with Essugo’s level of promise. However, the two clubs view him differently.
Barcelona, with their already packed midfield roster, does not see Essugo as a priority. The likes of Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong provide plenty of options in that department, leaving little room for another young prospect.
On the other hand, Real Madrid are actively seeking reinforcements in midfield. With the departure of Toni Kroos, the club is looking for a player who can bring fresh energy and dynamism to their squad, making Essugo a viable candidate.
Meanwhile, Sporting, Essugo’s parent club, are closely monitoring his development during his loan spell. The Lisbon side initially planned to welcome him back after the season, but interest from Spain’s biggest clubs could force a change in their plans.
A permanent transfer to either Real Madrid or Barcelona would undoubtedly alter Sporting’s approach, especially if his release clause is triggered.
