Leandro Trossard cut a frustrated figure after Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace but made it clear the focus had already shifted to the looming Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.

Speaking not long after full-time at the Emirates, the Belgian forward did not attempt to disguise his disappointment in the team’s inability to see out a match they led twice.

“I think overall it wasn’t a great performance by us today,” said Trossard. “It should have been better, especially if you have the lead twice, you need to defend it well.

“It’s not what we did, but we just need to focus now on the next game.”

The 30-year-old, who has now scored four goals in as many league appearances and reached double figures for the season, had again delivered what should have been a decisive moment with a well-taken finish before the interval.

But defensive lapses and a well-taken late equaliser denied Arsenal yet again and they had to settle for their 13th draw of the league season.

Trossard, however, was clear-eyed about the bigger picture. “Obviously, it needs to be better. Especially with the big game coming up, we need to rest up and prepare for that one.”

That game, the first leg of a Champions League semi-final at home to PSG, is the kind of night the forward lives for.

Having played a key role in the demolition of Real Madrid in the previous round, Trossard issued a rallying cry to the supporters who helped create that unforgettable occasion.

“I think everyone is up for it,” he said. “We’ve now got a six-day lead up to it, we need to rest up now, prepare really well, and I think everyone will be up for it.

“With the home crowd behind us, there needs to be an electric atmosphere, and they will push us forward.”

He added: “We want the same as last time, they were incredible in the home game against Madrid. If we can do that again, it would be amazing.”

Arteta, meanwhile, echoed Trossard’s call, “The message is that they have to play every ball with us.

“So I would say bring your boots, your shinpads, your shorts, your T-shirts! And let’s play on Tuesday night all together here to have one of the most amazing nights at the Emirates.”
