Paulo Fonseca has already shown that he does not mind using some tough love to get the best out of players, and that might be repeated with Theo Hernandez.
This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) talks about the ‘Fonseca therapy’ used on Rafael Leao in recent weeks and which could now be seen again. The coach wants Theo to flourish, and believes that he can come out of a difficult moment just as the Portuguese winger did.
Fonseca’s goal is to stimulate Theo’s character by benching him against Verona, but it can be a double-edged sword since not all players react in the same way to such a treatment. What it means is that Alex Jimenez – who performed well a few days ago against Genoa – is set for another chance.
How will Theo response to being benched for two games in a row? Will he do it in the right way like Leao did in his time? Time will tell, but there has to be an eye on the Roma game to close 2024 and the Supercoppa semi-final against Juventus in early January.

The first case of being dropped seems to have been accepted and swallowed by the French full-back, or at least this is what emerges from the words of his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon after Monday’s meeting at Casa Milan with the directors.
“Maximum respect for the coach’s decision and the players must accept the choice. Leao also went to the bench this year,” his representative said. Now it’s up to Theo to show that he wants to take back the starting position.
