Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that Union St Gilloise are closing in on a deal to sign Senegalese defender Mamadou Thierno Barry. The 19-year-old currently plays for Norwegian side Tromsø. The transfer may well be agreed now but not take place until the summer. His current side finished 13th in the Eliteserien last year, avoiding being involved in the relegation play-off by one position.
Barry played 18 times for the side from the north of the country, scoring one goal. He only just moved to Europe in the spring of 2024 from the Senegalese side Acadmy Mawade Wade for around €85k. However, according to Transfermarkt, the players valuation has jumped considerably. He is now valued over €1.5m.
The Belgian side are currently third in the table, 10 points behind Club Brugge in second and 11 points behind Genk. The side have been competing for the title over the past two seasons and given that points will be halved during the play-offs, they are still in with a chance of grabbing a 12th league title.
