The idea that Joao Felix might be sold or loaned out by Chelsea in this window sounded ridiculous not long ago. He only arrived at the club on a permanent deal in the summer.
Given there’s a certain level of financial friction involved in any transfer, a player would have had to have gained significant value over the course of 6 months to stop any transaction being a losing proposition for the seller in this case.
Given Felix was expensive and has contributed little outside some nice flashes in the Conference League, there’s no way his value has gone up – and certainly not to the level required to make a deal worthwhile for Chelsea.

But, Felix is a Jorge Mendes client. And once you get into bed with the Portuguese super agent, you tend to do what’s best for him and his client rather than your club. As with most agents, their priority is to get players to move – they get a juicy chunk of commission that way. So it’s no surprise that the latest round of rumours about Felix have Mendes at their heart.
Ben Jacobs and Edu Burgos in Spain are both reporting that Mendes will “hold talks today” with Milan over a loan for Felix. Chelsea haven’t received an offer, but will have made their demands pretty clear to the intermediary.
“An exit remains possible between now and Monday” concludes Jacobs, although it’s hard for us to see how that works financially. A loan with a juicy fee could be tempting for Chelsea, but that’s a tough proposition for Milan who gain little from it other than a luxury player on their books for 6 months.
