For much of the last 12-18 months, Rafa Mir has been linked with Valencia, whom he played for between 2015 and 2018. The 27-year-old has been on the outskirts at Sevilla for some time, dreaming of a return to the Mestalla, which is now set to become a reality.
Valencia and Sevilla have been in negotiations over the last couple of weeks, and an agreement has now been reached. As per Relevo, Mir will join Los Che on a season-long loan deal, which will include a €5m buy option.
Mir has been Valencia’s primary striker target during the first few weeks of the summer. Ruben Baraja wanted a replacement for Roman Yaremchuk, who returned to Club Brugge at the end of his loan spell.
Mir is expected to partner Hugo Duro in Valencia’s two-man attack next season, and he will hope to revitalise his career, which has been ailing in recent years. Sevilla will be pleased to get his wages off the books, as they target freeing up salary space for their own signings.
