Anthony Gordon says ‘it would mean the world’ if Newcastle United could now go on and win the League Cup for the fans.

The 2-0 win over Arsenal giving United a great opportunity now to reach Wembley 25 months after that League Cup final defeat to Man U.

Gordon believes his teammate is now the best striker in Europe, Isak making it 10 goals in his last 9 Newcastle matches, 7 goals in his last 5.

However, Anthony Gordon believes that a different Newcastle star has been United’s player of the season up this point…

Anthony Gordon asked about Alexander Isak after the Sweden international scored yet again to help United to a 2-0 win at Arsenal:

“Very good.

“He is the best in Europe.

“I think everyone is in agreement with that.

“Even for my goal. I’m just gambling back post.

“The best quality he [Alexander Isak] has got, is that he’s so humble.

“He is not scared to pass the ball.

“He is very unselfish and his best ability is his raw ability on the ball.”

Anthony Gordon asked about the possibility of Newcastle United now winning the League Cup, after the 2-0 first leg victory at Arsenal:

“It would mean the world… but we cannot think about that.

“Arsenal can easily flip this fixture if we are not at our best levels.

“We don’t have time though to celebrate this one.

“Arsenal are one of the best sides in Europe and it is only 2-0, we need to stay humble.”

“Coming to Arsenal is so hard and they defend really well/

“We are a team and that’s when we play at our best, when everyone is on the same page.
