Manchester United still have to pay another hefty installment for Borussia Dortmund as part of the Jadon Sancho transfer.
In the summer of 2021, the Red Devils forked out a whopping £73 million to secure the winger’s services. However, very few supporters complained of the large transfer fee at the time, as the England international was widely recognised as one of the most exciting rising stars on the globe.
But sadly for United, they never truly got to enjoy Sancho at his mesmerising best, as his Old Trafford stint was marred with uninspiring displays and off-the-pitch incidents.
This eventually drove the player out of the club in January 2024, as he made his return to BVB for a brief loan stint. Sancho’s vastly improved display in Germany convinced Chelsea to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy last summer.
At this stage, it remains to be seen if the Blues will spend £25 million to redeem the player as per the obligation, or instead relieve themselves by paying a £5m penalty, especially following his underwhelming performances in recent months.
In the meantime, some reports in the media have been tipping the winger with a third spell at Dortmund.

Nevertheless, Bundesliga insider Christian Falk insists BVB do not possess the financial means to pull off the operation, while revealing that United still owe the German giants a final installment worth £17 million.
“Not true. Sancho has been repeatedly linked with a return to BVB. Although it would certainly be interesting for Dortmund in sporting terms, it would be difficult financially, which doesn’t make a deal any easier,” wrote the German journalist in his latest column for The Daily Briefing.
“Dortmund are set to receive the final instalment for Sancho’s transfer to United this summer. Manchester will have to transfer a further £17m, which is very painful for the club in the current situation. It is therefore very unlikely that they will sell Sancho to Dortmund on the cheap in this situation.”
Falk’s revelation confirms Sir Jim Ractfliffe’s recent complaints regarding the ‘overpaid’ and ‘not good enough’ players Man Utd signed prior to his arrival at the club. The United co-owner, naturally named Sancho on this unceremonious list, alongside Antony, Andre Onana, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund.
