Ruben Amorim’s post-match press conference after Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth was interrupted by a leak in the ceiling.
United crashed to the devastating loss courtesy of goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo.
The result has left United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League standings – their lowest league position on Christmas Day since 1989/90.
The United players were jeered off the pitch at the final whistle by fans who had not departed the stadium.
As Amorim answered questions from journalists following the defeat, things went from bad to worse as the press conference was disrupted by a leaking roof.
Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted a video on X showing this.
BBC’s Simon Stone revealed that water was dripping down on the front row of journalists, forcing him to switch seats.
Old Trafford has gained a somewhat embarrassing reputation for struggling to keep water out during rainy matches.
Earlier this year, clips emerged online showing seats drenched after a meeting with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Old Trafford for that game.
Remedial works were conducted and according to MEN, United sources privately admitted that “some parts of the stadium struggled to cope.”
It’s understood that Ratcliffe created an Old Trafford task force to look into such issues.
United have just finished consulting fans over the redevelopment of Old Trafford and a final decision – either on refurbishment or the construction of a new arena – is expected to be made next year.
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Boxing Day when they make their way to the Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
