He is our youngest signing of the January transfer window, a surprise addition at the end of deadline day. Warren Bondo is a Rossonero. Arriving from Monza, for whom he has been a mainstay this season, he is fit, fired up and ready to roll. He knows Serie A, is developing well and is now looking for a step up in level. A centre-midfielder, 1.77m tall and weighing in at 63kg, he is gifted at breaking up play and recovering the ball. He reads the game brilliantly, runs hard and gets forward. Quick and able to play direct, he is all about substance over style. These are rare traits in Conceição's squad and he is as comfortable in a double pivot as he is in a midfield 3 or even 4.
Bondo was born in Évry, France, on 15 September 2003. He started his footballing journey bouncing around local clubs Corbeil-Essones, Viry-Châtillon, Brétigny and Nancy. It was with the latter that his career began in earnest, initially in their second team and then with the firsts in Ligue 2. He made 40 appearances and scored twice in the second tier of French football from 2020 to 2022. He arrived in Italy in the summer of 2022, signing for newly-promoted Monza. In January 2023, he joined Reggina for a brief loan spell before returning to Monza in the summer and cementing his place with the Brianzoli. Following his debut in August 2023, he made 52 appearances for the club, scoring once and providing one assist. Now, AC Milan.
Let's get to know Warren better by examining a few interesting facts.
HIS FIRST AND ONLY... AGAINST AC MILAN To date, he has only scored one goal in Serie A. It will be sure to conjure up some negative memories for you all because Monza's opponents at the U-Power Stadium that night were none other than AC Milan. The Rossoneri, down to ten men, had come from 2-0 down and equalised at 2-2, but Bondo slotted home the winner from the edge of the area (the hosts then made it 4-2).
SECOND TIME LUCKY He had already been linked to AC Milan, and it wasn't just the rumour mill churning because the Rossoneri had made a solid enquiry about signing him. But a deal didn't get done. That was before he signed for Monza, after he'd become the youngest player in history to sign a professional contract, proof of his precocious talent.
ILLUSTRIOUS BIRTHDAY He was born on 15 September, so he shares a birthday with one Dejan Savićević. Not just any old Rossonero, given that the Montenegrin won three Scudetti, three Supercoppe, one Champions League and one UEFA Super Cup during his spell at the Rossoneri (1992-1998). A piece of history.
38 He has chosen the number 38 shirt, not a common one in the Club's history. Throughout the years, the number has only been worn in the First Team by Maniero (1997/98) and his new teammate Terracciano (2023/24).
