Watford will not be looking to sell Hassane Kamara this summer according to The Athletic.

The 28-year-old won the Hornets’ Player of the Season award last season and is expected to begin the campaign as first choice left wing back at Vicarage Road.

The Ivorian has not been prolific in his creative numbers at any stage of his career, but he should improve in the final third with the step down a division, and with the increased control that the Hornets should be able to establish in games.

Danny Rose has not been involved since early December at Watford, therefore it is no surprise to see that Kamara is going to be first choice under Rob Edwards, but the fact that he will have the chance to become a key attacking asset in a left wing back role may have seemed unlikely to a few, with the 28-year-old so strong defensively.

The Hornets have only made three signings at this stage of the transfer window, two strikers who are unproven in English football and Ben Hamer who will likely be a backup option in goal.

With so few additions, where more may have been anticipated, Watford are going with what they have and the highest performing players from last season, like Kamara, will be crucial in ensuring they get off on the right foot.

This news will come as a relief to Watford supporters who may have already been disappointed to see some players depart this summer, Cucho Hernandez being one player, who has left for Columbus Crew, that would have been a great watch in the Championship.

Automatic promotion will be on the minds of all three newly relegated clubs in the second tier this season and Watford are no different, Edwards is a very ambitious appointment after winning the League Two title with Forest Green Rovers, and it will be exciting to see how he makes the transition up to the second tier, with Kamara at the forefront of his plans.
