Dino Toppmöller, Kevin Trapp and Hugo Ekitiké with the reaction after the match at Olympique Lyonnais.
Head coach Dino Toppmöller: “It was a deserved defeat. We had a really good start to the match, put the opponents under pressure early and were very active and brave. Unfortunately we didn’t make enough of the turnovers. We then scored a nice goal – we wanted to be dangerous in those zones. Lyon also had some openings and then the equaliser flipped the match in completely the wrong direction. Lyon played well after that and we didn’t defend well. We can take a great deal from this match. Lyon play at a very high level and punish little things immediately. In the end it’s a defeat, which never feels good.”
Kevin Trapp: “We kept trying until the end, it was an emotional match. We have to defend better with the goals we conceded and act differently. The last few results don’t have anything to do with tiredness or freshness. We started well again here. There are other reasons for the defeat but I don’t think we need a rest, even if this period is extreme with so many away matches. Despite everything, I feel that the team is there.”
Hugo Ekitiké: “When you return to France as a Frenchman, you obviously want to win. These are special matches. Some help us to learn. We’ve not lost in the Europa League for a long time. We can learn the lessons from this match and come back better. Lyon left us spaces which we didn’t exploit.”
