As the ongoing row over TV rights rumbles on, Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor didn’t hold back against PSG when asked about the current state of the French game. There has been no love lost between the American businessman and his counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaïfi at the Parc des Princes in recent months.
In an interview with Diario AS, the Eagle Football Group CEO touched on the difficulties other French teams have in being able to compete with Les Parisiens due to their financial power. Textor said, “We are just a small club facing a very big and powerful country…What I have a problem with is the distortion of competition, which destroys our revenue opportunity, our television opportunity, and our competitive opportunity. And it harms all the communities in France who dream and hope that their team can win a championship one day because it will never happen until we change these rules.”
PSG have had a stronghold on Ligue 1 since the arrival of QSI in the French capital. Only two other teams, Lille and Monaco, have managed to beat the capital club to the crown in that time period. The Lyon owner has not been shy of his ambition to take Les Gones to a position of competing but has continually criticised the strength of the Ligue 1 champions’ grip on the competition since he took over the Rhône club.
