West Ham and Leicester have been making checks on Shea Charles.
Sheffield Wednesday's Southampton loanee, Shea Charles, is attracting admiring glances from West Ham United and Leicester City this January transfer window.
Charles is impressing on loan at Hillsborough under Danny Rohl, whilst parent-club, Southampton, continue to struggle at the foot of the Premier League table.
It's been reported by Mail Online that West Ham have been making checks on Charles, who has previously been on the radar of Leicester.
Atalanta are the third club noted in the report to have been making checks on the Northern Ireland international.
Despite the interest, it's not quite clear if any club will make a move to lure Charles out of Southampton in the January transfer window and, you'd presume, away from Sheffield Wednesday.
Charles played 33 times in the Championship for Southampton last season, featuring regularly for Russell Martin's side, who won promotion back to the Premier League at the expense of Leeds United in the play-off final.
However, he was afforded a loan ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, stepping back into the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday on loan.
The 21-year-old has played 21 times in the Championship this season, scoring one goal and registering a further four assists, impressing under Rohl, who was heavily linked with the Southampton job when Martin was sacked.
Should West Ham, Leicester or Atalanta make a move for Charles this winter and be successful, it will have a knock-on effect on both Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton.
Sheffield Wednesday are pushing for the top six in the Championship, with Rohl one of the most promising coaches outside the Premier League. If he's at the helm, there's serious belief Wednesday can move in the right direction.
However, losing a player of Charles' ilk would be a setback.
For Southampton, Charles is a top prospect and sure to be a big part of their future in the Premier League or Championship. Losing him would be a bitter blow this winter and impact them in the mid-term.
