West Ham United have had a quiet January transfer window, as they are yet to add a new player to the squad.
The Hammers have been linked with several top players, but a transfer move hasn’t materialised.
West Ham submitted a £57 million bid for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran earlier this month, but that was turned down by the Midlands side.
The East Londoners have now turned their attention to Brighton & Hove Albion ace Evan Ferguson.
According to Sky Sports, Brighton are open to loan as well as permanent offers for the 20-year-old.
Several clubs have been credited with an interest, with Bayer Leverkusen thought to be leading the chase for the centre-forward.
However, West Ham are still pushing to do a deal for Ferguson, who has emerged as their primary target in this window.
Graham Potter’s side are desperate to sign a striker before the February 3 deadline.
Summer arrival Niclas Fullkrug is very injury-prone and rarely available for selection. Michail Antonio was involved in a horrific car crash, and so he will not play for at least a year.
West Ham also have Danny Ings on their books, but the 32-year-old is viewed predominantly as an impact player at the London Stadium.
Potter has been using Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus as makeshift strikers in recent matches.
The English boss will be very eager to sign Ferguson, who has been described as “explosive” and is highly rated for his physicality and clinical finishing.
Potter also knows the player well from his time at Brighton, and that might give the Irons an advantage in securing a deal for him.
