Manchester United were on the receiving end of their 13th league defeat this evening, which came at the hands of high-flyers Nottingham Forest.
The hosts completed a double over United at the City Ground for the first time since 1992 and for a maiden time in the Premier League era, with Nuno Espirito Santo becoming the first Forest manager to do so since the legendary Brian Clough.
To make matters slightly more embarrassing for the Red Devils, the only goalscorer on the night was a product of their own academy, Anthony Elanga, whom they sold for a mere £15 million fee in 2023 – a year after forking out £85m for Antony.
It was, however, far from a hammering by Forest, which the United faithful were perhaps expecting when the opener nestled past Andre Onana just five minutes into the clash.

United squandered their chance to claim back-to-back league wins for the first time in 2024/2025, and will instead look to start again when they lock horns with Manchester City this Sunday at Old Trafford.
Post-match, Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston confirmed on X/Twitter that he’d spotted Matthijs de Ligt walking gingerly out of the stadium. However, the defender stopped to ease reporters’ concerns on his way past the mixed zone.
“Matthijs de Ligt was limping as he left the stadium, but he told me he was okay,” said Railston.
The Dutch international soldiered on to play the full 90 minutes in the East Midlands despite suffering an ankle injury earlier in the night. Hopefully, he’ll be cleared to play as normal for United’s forthcoming fixtures, though the returns of absentees Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire will give Ruben Amorim some solace that he has options at the back if De Ligt is unavailable.
