VANCOUVER, Canada – Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Pumas UNAM drew 1-1 in the first leg of their quarterfinals series as the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup continued Wednesday at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Sebastian Berhalter created danger for the Whitecaps in the 4’ with a left-footed hit from the center of the box that was just wide off the mark.

The Canadians broke the deadlock to take the lead in the 71’, with Brian White taking advantage of a loose ball inside the penalty area following a corner kick delivery, striking with a finish from close range to the bottom right corner.

White’s goal increased his tally to four on the campaign, tying Cruz Azul’s Ángel Sepúlveda in the Top Scorer race.

Adalberto Carrasquilla found the equalizer for the visitors in the 87’ with a right-footed volley inside the box to capitalize on a corner kick taken by Leonardo Suárez. The goal marked a first for Carrasquilla since joining the Liga MX side in January.

The home side came close to reclaiming the lead in the 90+4’ through a header from Emmanuel Sabbi inside the box, but the attempt was met by a save from Pumas goalkeeper Álex Padilla.

The two sides will meet in the second leg next Wednesday at Estadio Universitario in Mexico City. The winner on aggregate will advance to the semifinals.
