Real Madrid star Arda Güler played no part in training alongside the rest of the club’s first-team squad on Saturday.

As much has been confirmed by Real themselves this afternoon.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops are of course fresh off kicking their endeavours for the new year into gear with a victory on Friday night.

After making the trip to Mestalla for a La Liga meeting with Valencia, goals on the part of Luka Modrić and Jude Bellingham secured a last-gasp comeback triumph for Los Blancos.

The aforementioned Arda Güler for his part watched on from the bench, not introduced even with his side desperately searching for an equaliser.

And, as alluded to above, on Saturday, an explanation for precisely why appears to have surfaced.

As per a release on Real Madrid’s official website:

‘Arda Güler worked out indoors (today), suffering from a case of the flu.’

The Turkish international is expected to have recovered in time to play his part in Monday’s Copa del Rey meeting with Deportivo Minera.
