Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky revealed he lost his contact lens during his side’s 2-1 win over Bayern Munich on Sunday.
Hradecky put in a man of the match performance against the Bundesliga champions, despite playing for 20 minutes with partial vision.
The shock result sees Leverkusen jump up to seventh, two points behind fourth-placed Bayern who have lost three league games already this season.
“I lost my contact lens in the first half and I hardly saw anything for 20 minutes before the break,” he told reporters after the game.
“I’ve never felt under pressure in my goal like today before. I almost cried when the referee added six minutes.
“You try and play Bayern with one eye – I wouldn’t recommend it! We got lucky but it was a heroic performance.”
Bayern return to domestic action against Borussia Mönchengladbach on December 7.
