An explanation for the absence of Robert Lewandowski from Barcelona’s latest matchday squad has on Saturday night been provided.

Barcelona, of course, are primed to return to action in short order.

Sandwiched between two legs of a Champions League showdown with Benfica, the Blaugrana have welcomed Osasuna to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

Amid such a crucial run of fixtures for his side at present, Hansi Flick has opted to ring the changes, dropping the likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Alejandro Balde to the bench.

The aforementioned Robert Lewandowski, though, has not even been afforded a place in Barca’s squad.

And as alluded to above, a short time ago, an explanation for as much was forthcoming online.

As per a report from Blaugrana insider Adrià Albets:

‘Lewandowski went to the hotel this morning and went home because he was very tired and had some physical discomfort. Flick is giving him complete rest today and saving him from having to go to Montjuïc. He wants him in top form for Tuesday.’
