Real Madrid appear closer each day to signing Trent Alexander-Arnold. This, without a doubt, is a sigh of relief for Tottenham fans.
Over the past few months, the pesky Real Madrid eyes have been locked on Tottenham's defence. Firstly, Los Blancos were interested in signing Pedro Porro to cover their full-back crisis. Then, more recently, they shown an interest in signing Micky van de Ven.
So, Carlo Ancelotti is clearly a fan of the way Ange Postecoglou operates his defensive block. As the biggest club in the world and an attractive destination for any player, Tottenham fans worldwide will be thinking to themselves "hands off."
Thankfully, though, Real Madrid seem set on their next full-back signing and it's not a Tottenham player...
Reports in Spain this week claimed that Real Madrid were "on the verge" of signing Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool. There is uncertainty about whether the royal white side will sign Trent in the January transfer window, which opened yesterday, or whether they will sign him in the summer.
Of course, signing Trent in January is better for Real Madrid, since it means their injury concerns will be alleviated immediately. However, Liverpool seem unwilling to negotiate which means Real Madrid might have to wait in the summer. Still - They would be getting Trent for free, that way.
Either way, Tottenham fans will be silently hoping that Trent is Madrid-bound. It is not only for the sake of a Premier League rival being weakened but also because it keeps Pedro Porro at Tottenham.
This season, Porro has been hit and miss. However, this isn't reflective of him as a player. Indeed, you could say the same about any Tottenham player because the whole squad has been inconsistent this term.
In his last Premier League appearance before the New Year, Porro provided an assist in the draw against Wolves. He has provided three assists and scored two goals in the Premier League this campaign.
As a fully-fledged Spain international, it is clear to see why Real Madrid are sniffing around Porro. He fits their calibre of player after all and he is still yet to enter the prime stages of his career.
Nevertheless, it would be nonsensical for Real Madrid to sign both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Pedro Porro. This would make it impossible to please everybody, especially since Real Madrid already have Dani Carvajal (injured) and Lucas Vazquez.
