Wolfsburg grow into the game

As the half progressed, Wolfsburg gradually grew into the game. Yannick Gerhardt had the hosts' first notable attempt, his shot flying just wide of the post. The Wolves continued to dominate possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances against a well-organized St. Pauli defence. Jonas Wind came close with a header from a corner, but his effort went over the bar.

Van der Heyden breaks the deadlock

Against the run of play, St. Pauli took the lead in the 38th minute as Siebe Van der Heyden rose highest to head home from a Jackson Irvine knockback from a corner. It was Van der Heyden's first Bundesliga goal and ended St. Pauli's goal drought, giving the visitors a surprise 1-0 lead at half-time.

Wolfsburg fight back

Wolfsburg made changes at half-time, with Maximilian Arnold and Mads Roerslev coming on to bolster the midfield and defence as the hosts pressed for an equaliser. Their efforts finally paid off in the 70th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Mohamed Amoura stepped up and confidently converted, bringing Wolfsburg level.

Late drama and shared spoils

The goal injected new life into the match, with both teams pushing for a winner. Amoura came close to scoring a second, but Nikola Vasilj produced a stunning save to deny him from close range. Jakub Kamiński, a second-half substitute for Wolfsburg, also forced an excellent save from Vasilj. At the other end, Marius Müller was called into action to keep out a long-range effort from Eric Smith. Despite five minutes of added time, neither team could find a breakthrough, and the match ended in a fair 1-1 draw.

Player of the Match: Nikola Vasilj

While both goalscorers made significant impacts, St. Pauli's goalkeeper Vasilj emerged as the standout performer. Vasilj made several crucial saves throughout the match, particularly in the second half when Wolfsburg were piling on the pressure. His reflexes and positioning were instrumental in preserving a point for St. Pauli, with his save from Amoura's close-range effort being the highlight of an impressive display.
