Manchester City could soon benefit from a slice of transfer profit, with midfielder Tommy Doyle edging closer to an exit from Wolves. As reported by The Mirror, Wolves boss Vítor Pereira has confirmed end-of-season talks with Doyle over his future, amid a clear lack of playing time for the 23-year-old.
Doyle, who completed a £4.3 million move to Molineux last summer following a successful loan under Gary O’Neil, has struggled for minutes under Pereira’s new regime. City, holding a 50 per cent sell-on clause and a buy-back option, may yet see some financial benefit, although the latter clause looks increasingly unlikely to be activated.
Sheffield United are said to be among the suitors keen to snap up Doyle, although any potential deal could be dependent on their promotion hopes through the Championship play-offs. Doyle had previously impressed at Bramall Lane, helping the Blades secure promotion and a memorable FA Cup semi-final run during his loan spell in the 2022–23 season.

Despite his promise, Doyle has managed just one Premier League start under Pereira, who noted:
“Usually, at the end of a season, I have a conversation with the players to understand. If I have a conversation with a player and they say they are not happy because they want to play, and I can’t guarantee they will play a lot of games next season, then this is a decision.”
Pereira’s comments further highlighted the collaborative nature of such decisions:
“It’s not a decision just from my part or the club’s part, it’s a conversation between the coach, the club and the player to decide.”
While Doyle’s fate hangs in the balance, Wolves are scrambling to secure club captain Nelson Semedo to a new contract. Semedo, a consistent performer over five seasons, sees his deal expire at the end of June. Reports suggest his former side Benfica are keen on a reunion.
Pereira has emphasised the need for player happiness at the club, adding:
“I believe we cannot be in a place if we are not happy, because we cannot be ourselves. You need to have players here with their mind and heart here, happy, because they feel this happiness inside.”
Meanwhile, another major storyline at Wolves is Matheus Cunha’s potential exit. Manchester United are reportedly ready to trigger his £62.5 million release clause. Positive talks between Cunha’s representatives and United have already taken place, pushing Newcastle, also previously interested, into the background.
Wolves face a crucial summer of change — and as The Mirror has highlighted, maintaining stability will be key if Pereira is to mould a side ready to push higher next season.

There’s no denying it – the situation around Tommy Doyle and Matheus Cunha signals a potentially transformative summer for Wolves. For Doyle, it feels disappointing more than anything else. After seeing his dynamism during that incredible Sheffield United loan, many Wolves fans believed he could blossom into a midfield mainstay. Instead, under Pereira, it just hasn’t clicked. His possible departure feels inevitable now — and it’s frustrating given the potential we saw glimpses of.
As for Matheus Cunha, it’s bittersweet. No one can argue with the fee – £62.5 million is a hefty return. But losing one of the few players capable of moments of real attacking brilliance is a worry. Manchester United’s growing interest makes it feel like a done deal, and it raises uncomfortable questions about whether Wolves will reinvest wisely enough.
Nelson Semedo’s contract talks provide a glimmer of stability. Five years of consistent service deserves recognition, and if Wolves lose him too, fans will be justifiably concerned about an unsettling exodus.
This summer could define Vítor Pereira’s Wolves. Get it right, and Wolves can climb higher. Get it wrong, and a season of struggle could await.
