There is a full batch of qualifiers for the Women’s 2025 European Championships tonight.
Here’s what happened in the best of the action.
Scorers: Stanway 21′, Russo 34′; Diani 72 (PEN)
England put their recent loss to France in Newcastle firmly to bed as they carved out a superb victory.
France could’ve taken the lead early on but Kadidiatou Diani, but she shot wide of the post under pressure from Leah Williamson.
It wasn’t long before England took the lead when some great strength from Lauren Hemp shielded the ball inside the box before laying it off to Georgia Stanway who thumped a sublime shot into the back of the net from range.
England’s advantage was almost doubled when an excellent cross on the volley from Lucy Bronze forced France ‘keeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin to save Alessia Russo’s resulting header from point-blank range.
The Lionesses were playing some stunning football, and soon struck again when Hemp put in a wonderful ball that was converted by the head of Russo.
France should’ve got one back at the end of the first half when Wendie Renard headed back across goal, leaving Marie-Antoinette Katoto in a great position to score but failed to make the finish.
Into the second half and England were not as free flowing as they had been, and France got a lifeline when Diani was fouled in the box by Williamson.
The Lyon forward took the spot-kick herself and struck it with power and accuracy to pull one back for her side.
With minutes left to go, Hannah Hampton pulled off a brilliant save, tipping a Katoto shot around the post.
England now move into joint second in the group, level on points with Sweden.
Scorers: Thomsen 4′, 72′; Vilamala 74′, Paredes 76′, García 90+2
Denmark squandered a two goal lead to lose to Spain thanks to a late flurry of goals from the World Champions.
Andrée Jeglertz’ side shocked Spain with an early strike into the top left corner from midfielder Janni Thomsen.
Despite a superior number of shots and more possession, Spain found themselves 2-0 down as Amalie Vangsgaard headed to Thomsen who duly converted her second.
That seemed to spark the game into life, as Spain finally converted one of their chances as Irene Paredes crossed to Bruna Vilamala, who headed home.
Spain had their tails up and they soon found the equaliser when Paredes when from provider to goalscorer as she then converted an Alexia Putellas cross with a close-range header.
Fresh from winning the FA Cup with Manchester United, Lucía García fired home a later winner in stoppage time with a left-footed shot.
Scorers: Kalinina 34′, Kozlova 90+7; Barton 74′ (PEN), Fishlock 76′
Despite dominating possession and chances, the Welsh side were punished on the counter attack when Olha Ovdiychuk broke free and provided a tap in for team-mate Yana Kalinina.
Wales were given a reprieve when Kayleigh Barton went down under what looked to be very minimal contact Anna Petryk. Barton took the penalty herself and duly converted.
Just two minutes later midfielder Jess Fishlock turned things around completely when she belted a 25-yard shot straight into the top corner.
Wales just couldn’t hang on to see out the win, and a powerful header deep into stoppage time from Nicole Kozlova cancelled out their brilliant turn around.
Scorers: Wade 5′; Nazareth 18′, Norton 30′
Portugal remain unbeaten in the qualifiers with their fourth win in five games.
Yet it was Northern Ireland who stunned the group leaders by taking the lead after just five minutes from a Lauren Wade strike from close range.
That lead lasted just over ten minutes though, and Kika Nazareth headed in the equaliser from a Lúcia Alves cross.
Andreia Norton then put group leaders Portugal ahead with a strike from inside the box.
Perhaps Northern Ireland will be disappointed that they couldn’t hold on to their lead, but they certainly didn’t do enough in the attacking third of the pitch to warrant anything from the game.
Scorers: Thomas 14′, 37′, 74′, 77, Cornet 86′
Scotland put in a stellar performance to demolish Israel, as Tottenham’s Martha Thomas contributed with four goals.
At the behind-closed-doors venue in Budapest, the nominal away side started brightly as a Sophie Howard header was cleared off the line and Israel stopper pulled off a good save from a Kirsty Hanson attempt.
It wasn’t long before Scotland took the lead, Martha Thomas latching onto a lovely through ball, and slotting home with confidence.
Thomas doubled the advantage when she headed home superbly, getting on the end of an excellent cross from Lisa Evans.
Into the second half and she almost had her third, but her looping header went over the bar.
Yet it wasn’t long before a headed goal meant Thomas had her first ever hat-trick for Scotland, and then incredibly she added a fourth just three minutes later.
Scotland had five with yet another milestone goal, as Chelsea Cornet fired home on the rebound for her first strike for the national side.
Pedro Martínez Losa’s side sit at the top of their group, having extended their lead to two points over Serbia after four games played.
Scorers: Beerensteyn 17′; Rantala 77′
Bottom of the group Finland battled to an excellent point against leaders Netherlands.
Following a cagey opening 15 minutes, Netherlands took the lead thanks to a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from Juventus star Lineth Beerensteyn.
Chances aplenty went begging for Netherlands in the ten-minute period before half-time, and they went in at the break just one goal in front.
After the break, Finland were really threatening with a number of shots fired towards goal and they had their reward when Jutta Rantala finally breached the Netherlands defence.
The underdogs held out for a precious and well-deserved point, but the result is unlikely to affect Netherlands’ hopes of qualification.
Scorers: Grabowska 12′; Schüller 51′ 69′, Bühl 77′
Germany battled back from a goal behind to take the win over Poland.
Poland went ahead first against the run of play as midfielder Dominika Grabowska struck with a left-footed shot from inside the box.
Striker Lea Schüller probably should’ve equalised when her header from close range went wide of the left-hand post, and that attempt was followed up a few minutes later with another miss on the left side from Sydney Lohmann.
As the half drew to a close, Alexandra Popp headed a chance just over the bar from a Pia-Sophie Wolter corner.
Schüller then made up for her earlier miss when she tapped home from a corner to level up the scores.
By this point, Germany were hugely dominating in terms of shots on goal and were finally ahead when Schüller added her second of the game with a right-footed shot from Giulia Gwinn’s cross.
That goal seemed to open the floodgates and Klara Bühl added Germany’s third with an effort from outside of the box.
The win consolidates the win at the top of their group.
Scorers: Giugliano 5′; Maanum 81′
The Italians were in no mood to mess about as Valentina Giacinti struck the frame of the goal after just one minute, and that was followed by a goal from Manuela Giugliano just five minutes into the match.
Barcelona’s Caroline Graham Hansen went close to finding an equaliser for Norway but her attempt was saved by Italy stopper Laura Giuliani.
Despite that early dominance, Norway weren’t easily stifled and found their equaliser thanks to a Frida Maanum header, who converted from a Vilde Bøe Risa cross.
That point will help Norway’s chances of qualification, having begun the game just three points behind Italy in the table.
Sweden dominated posession in the early stages of the game but couldn’t penetrate Ireland’s backline, with chances from Fridolina Rolfö and Madelen Janogy failing to register on the scoresheet.
That defence held resolute until the 84th minute, but in the end couldn’t stop Magda Eriksson converting a shot from close range to take the win.
Ireland remain bottom of the group with zero points scored.
