One pundit does not believe that Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca said about his own player earlier this week and says it would be ludicrous.

Chelsea beat Southampton 4-0 on Tuesday night in what was a much needed convincing performance, with goals coming from Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto, Levi Colwill, and Marc Cucurella.

The Saints were a very poor opposition of course, but Chelsea really needed a big win and a big performance, and that is exactly what they did last night right in the nick of time as they look to keep challenging for that all important Champions League spot.

Neto was superb playing as the number 9 and as well as getting his goal, he has explained why he loves playing as a striker with a hilarious answer!

There was some moments where the crowd started groaning when goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen got on the ball under pressure and kept passing it short instead of long. But Enzo Maresca insisted this is what he told him to do.

Murphy does not believe Maresca

Speaking at his post-match press conference, head coach Maresca said: “My message to Filip was ‘If you play long balls, I will change you.’ He was just doing what I said to him.

“It’s difficult for Filip, and it’s difficult for Robert (Sanchez) too. All the keepers, they are just following the plan.”

Murphy isn’t convinced by that – insisting it would be “ludicrous” for a manager to tell a player such a thing.

Speaking on Talksport, the former Fulham midfielder said: “He’s trying to pressure off him, so he takes the heat off him.

“It’s a ridiculous notion, really. They’re a young side so they need guidance, but you can’t tell the keeper he can’t go long. That would be ludicrous.

“But I don’t think he means it. He’s trying to protect him.”
