Standard Liege have announced that Yaya Toure has left the club after four months working with Carl Hoefken’s staff. The former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder worked as an assistant coach to Hoefkens during his spell, but has decided to leave to join one of his former bosses.
Toure will link up once again with Roberto Mancini, who has been appointed as head coach of the Saud-Arabia national team. Mancini left his role as head coach of Italy back in August and joined Saudi-Arabia a week or so later. He takes over after a successful spell from former Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire head coach Hervé Renard, who was in charge when Yaya Toure lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015. Under Renard, Saudi-Arabia shocked the world when they beat eventual World Cup winners Argentina in their opening game of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The country has recently been announced as the hosts for the 2034 Word Cup.
