Wednesday night’s match ended Newcastle 5 Crystal Palace 0.
Ahead of each game we ask one of our writers to come up with three positives and three negatives following the game.
An interesting night at St James’ Park…
Plenty to talk about after this one.
On this occasion it is David Punton:
POSITIVES
Five star United
It was a throw back to former days under KK and Sir Bobby Robson but this team maybe even better.
We were served up a midweek goal feast, Palace the side on the receiving end of a proper gubbing.
The first half in particular saw some truly stunning play from United, who bossed it all over the pitch.
Pressing, tackling, passing, defending. It was total football.
More of the same please.
That’s nine goals in two games ar SJP. We’re getting spoilt rotten at the moment.
Shine on Harvey
Harvey Barnes has really transformed his fortunes at NUFC.
He’s spent a long time on that bench but his chance has now arrived and he’s grabbed it with both hands.
He’s now in stellar form and showing why it was a good idea to part with £40m for his services.
It’s what we always knew – the lad’s a goal machine when he gets it right.
Four goals in three games now and plenty more to come, one suspects.
Making memories
Jacob Murphy must surely be under consideration for England.
He’s now up to 19 Premier League direct goal involvements for the season and chipped in with a stunning strike from a seemingly impossible angle.
Many once felt he might get shown the door but now he simply cannot be dropped.
Aged 30, he’s now at the peak of his game.
NEGATIVES
Penalised
It’s hard to be critical after a 5-0 win but the penalty decision was a farce.
We’ve seen incidents where this sort of thing wasn’t given – see Wolves away that time.
Seven or eight?
It was such a dominant display we probably missed a great chance to bang in seven or eight.
Marc Guehi
We once coveted Marc Guehi.
We were willing to shell out huge money for him.
We may still do that this summer.
He didn’t exactly pass this audition though.
