One player who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Manchester City is Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White. David Ornstein has previously reported for the Athletic that City have an interest in signing the England international this summer. Gibbs-White started for Nottingham Forest during Manchester City’s 2-nil win over Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Sunday. Gibbs-White showed at Wembley that he could be a quality addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad if City do move for the England international this summer.
In the first half at Wembley, Morgan Gibbs-White put in a subdued display. That was more down to the quality of Manchester City’s first-half performance than anything else. Although, for large portions of the first half, it did appear that the occasion that is the FA Cup semi-final got to Nottingham Forest. But come the second half Forest was a different proposition. Morgan Gibbs-White was at the heart of it for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. The Nottingham Forest midfielder showed in the second half what he could potentially add to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Morgan Gibbs-White hit the woodwork twice in the second half. His first effort was a stinging left-footed volley that rattled the crossbar. Gibbs-White’s second effort came after a Josko Gvardiol error, and the England international rounded Stefan Ortega, but his shot hit the post. He also saw a header well-saved by Stefan Ortega. But Gibbs-White showed that his ability to get forward would add something different to the Manchester City squad. His tireless running and energy were also standout features of his play. You could see at Wembley exactly what he’d add to Pep Guardiola’s side.
If Sunday was an audition for Morgan Gibbs-White ahead of a potential summer move to Manchester City he passed it. He did so with flying colours. Fortunately for Pep Guardiola’s side, Gibbs-White struck the woodwork twice on Sunday. Cause if they didn’t and his efforts went in the case would be overwhelming for City to sign him this summer. But he showed what he could add to Pep Guardiola’s squad and you do feel that Manchester City will likely move for the England international this summer.
