Liverpool are of course guaranteed one of those places now, whilst Arsenal also look a sure bet.

So that leaves three more places to fight for, with the Premier League getting a bonus fifth spot in next season’s competition.

The season ends in 34 days time and five Premier League clubs are in contention for the other three places.

This is the position of those five on the morning of Monday 21 April 2025:

Newcastle United 59 points GD +18

Ipswich (H), Brighton (A), Chelsea (H), Arsenal (A), Everton (H)

Man City 58 points GD +22

Villa (H), Wolves (H), Southampton (A), Bournemouth (H), Fulham (A)

Chelsea 57 points GD +18

Everton (H), Liverpool (H), Newcastle (A), Man U (H), Forest (A)

Forest 57 points GD +13

Spurs (A), Brentford (H), Palace (A), Leicester (H), West Ham (A), Chelsea (H)

Villa 57 points GD +6

Man City (A), Fulham (H), Bournemouth (A), Spurs (H), Man U (A)

Appearing on Match of The Day 2 on Sunday night, Alan Shearer, Ashley Williams and Mark Chapman discussing how these Champions League places are going to be decided:

Alan Shearer:

“Chelsea have got the toughest run in do you think?”

Ashley Williams:

“Yes, I think that Forest v Chelsea game could be an interesting one on the last day of the season.

“With the FA Cup games though, you don’t know who is going to be fighting for what.

“Manchester City will feel quite confident looking at that (their remaining fixtures).

“Your boys Newcastle will probably feel good about it. Chelsea probably have the most difficult (run-in).”

Mark Chapman:

“Do you think with three of those five also in the FA Cup semi-finals that will play a part – Forest, Man City and Villa?”

Ashley Williams:

“It is as important to get into the Champions League but it depends what the manager is prioritising. It is also nice if you can pick up a trophy and do both, great.”

Alan Shearer:

“It’s hard enough to predict results anyway, but at this stage of the season, it is almost impossible.

“But my guess will be, maybe Chelsea and Forest will miss out (and Newcastle, Man City and Aston Villa will get the Champions League places)”

Ashley Williams:

“Yes, Newcastle, Man City, Villa (to get Champions League football and Chelsea and Forest to miss out).”

As you can see, both Alan Shearer and Ashley Williams going for the same prediction. Newcastle United, Man City and Villa to end up in the top five, Chelsea and Forest to miss out.

Not many matches remain but so much to play for when  it comes to these five Premier League clubs and their Champions League aspirations.
