Paris Saint-Germain’s weakness is Arsenal’s strength and that could be sending alarm bells ringing ahead of the pair’s meeting in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
PSG’s invincibility was broken by OGC Nice at the Parc des Princes on Friday night. Franck Haise’s side won 3-1 to bolster their own hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. In what was PSG’s first defeat in Ligue 1 this season, their major flaw was once again exposed.
Two of Le Gym’s goals came from free kicks. As highlighted by Stats du Foot, 38% of the goals conceded by PSG this season have come from set-pieces. It is therefore an inopportune time to face Arsenal, recognised as one of the best set-piece sides in Europe.
In the last two Premier League campaigns, Arsenal have scored 38 goals from set-pieces, six more than any other side in the league. PSG face Arsenal in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, before the return leg a week later in Paris.
