Bayern Munich's advantage over Bayer Leverkusen remains at six points in dramatic two-way Bundesliga title race

Bayern Munich had their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings cut to just six points after a dramatic Matchday 26 - but kept that advantage over Bayer Leverkusen as the top two both claimed wins on Matchday 27.

Bayern have lost just twice all season, whilst taking vital points off Leverkusen in their two draws. They were beaten at home by Bochum on Matchday 25, but it's going to take a real slump in form for them to let Bayer back in between now and the end of the season. Vincent Kompany's side do, however, have a UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie with Inter Milan to factor in either side of Der Klassiker on 12 April, and a potential semi-final after that. If they can claim positive results against both Borussia Dortmund and an Augsburg side anchored by the incredible Finn Dahmen, the Bavarians will be well on course to regain the crown.

Leverkusen failed to properly capitalise on back-to-back slips by Bayern but have cut the gap to six points with seven games left. Making up that ground will be a tough ask, especially having lost talisman Florian Wirtz until into April. Late comebacks that defined their title-winning campaign haven't been anywhere near as frequent this term, but a dramatic 4-3 win at Stuttgart kept Xabi Alonso and Co. waiting in the wings, should Bayern stumble in the final stretches of the season.

If they can go on to pick up momentum after their latest wins, last term's domestic double-winners have already shown they know how to rewrite the history books...
