Mike Maignan has still not renewed his contract with AC Milan, and this has reportedly alerted Manchester United and Chelsea to a cut-price deal.

According to CaughtOffside, United and Chelsea are ‘on alert’ as an ‘opportunity seems to have opened up’ to sign Maignan in the summer. Sources have told them both clubs are ‘long-term admirers’ of the Frenchman and also want a new starting goalkeeper.

The fact that his contract runs out in just over 12 months means that Milan could make him available for a fee of around €40m. Aston Villa ‘could also be one to watch’ with the Rossoneri ‘increasingly open to letting him leave for the right price’.

Contract talks have stalled between Milan and the former Lille man after some sub-par performances this season, despite talks of a verbal agreement having been reached months ago which was then never turned into signatures.

A recent report from La Gazzetta dello Sport stated that the Diavolo have in fact lowered the offer they previously put forward because of the concerns about Maignan’s form, from €5m net plus bonuses to around €4.5m.

They also claimed that the club are looking at a number of potential replacements both domestically and overseas, with one of them being Lille’s Lucas Chevalier.
