Chelsea are considering selling centre-half Wesley Fofana this summer if the opportunity arises, according to Foot Mercato.

The 24-year-old has endured another season blighted by injuries, and the Blues are rightly concerned about his availability.

Marseille are interested in signing him. They moved for him last summer, but nothing materialised.

Fofana is already out for the season after missing a large chunk of the campaign. He has made only 14 appearances this term.

The France international was out of action last season and managed only 22 appearances in his debut campaign. In this game, the best ability is availability. Fofana does not have this.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is a massive fan of Fofana, but the fact that he cannot stay fit does not bode well.

The Blues had to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace, and he has made the right centre-half spot his own.

Chalobah is ahead of Tosin Adarabioyo in the pecking order. It will be difficult for Fofana to take back that right-back starting berth if both men are fit.

Fofana should be one of the first names on the Chelsea chopping block this summer

Fofana has been disappointing since his £69.5 million move from Leicester City, and Chelsea should cut their losses this summer.

He cannot stay fit and must be treated like an egg anytime he returns to action. The Blues need him off their books.

The former Saint-Etienne man epitomises the poor recruitment that has plagued the club in recent years.

Chalobah should be the one staying at Chelsea, yet the club has been trying to offload him for pure profit while their big-money bet has managed only 36 appearances across three seasons.

The club should be trying to build their defence around Chalobah and Levi Colwill, with Reece James and Marc Cucurella flanking them.

They have the fourth-best defence in the Premier League this season and should aim for consistency.

Chelsea must avoid more big-money signings such as Dean Huijsen and stick to what they have.

They have more than enough centre-backs on their books and should sell Fofana and oft-injured international colleague Benoit Badiashile.

Chelsea can go forward with Colwill, Chalobah, Mamadou Sarr, Renato Veiga, Aaron Anselmino and Adarabioyo.
