“Chelsea need…” – Winger criticised for not listening to Enzo Maresca’s instructions

This is just criminal from a player who continues to frustrate us.
A lot of talk in the international break was about Jadon Sancho – should Chelsea send him back to Manchester United? A major focus was on his lack of shooting. He’s not scored nearly enough goals for a winger this season, and his manager Enzo Maresca said back in December he had told the winger to shoot more.
This advice was raised again in the press conference ahead of tonight’s game.
Well, clearly that advice hasn’t been heeded. With Chelsea pushing for a goal with a spell of dominance, the Man City formed winger simply refused to have a go at goal – both on two occasions where he had really clear opportunities, and a couple of others where he could at least have got a snap-shot away.
He did finally take one shot in the 44th minute – but it was tipped over. Still, given he averages 0.8 shots per game, just doing that has put him above his mean for the season.
“Sancho twice not shooting while in good positions there. Chelsea need someone to take charge,” Nizaar Kinsella wrote for the BBC.

Sancho has plenty of other good qualities – but they weren’t on display tonight. We would be surprised if he was hauled off for the now fit Noni Madueke at half time, but it would be a pretty popular move with most fans.
Online there was a wave of frustration, spilling over after months of building up while Madueke and Nicolas Jackson are out. Some were very cruel, saying that they wouldn’t just pay the £5m fee to terminate Sancho’s loan, they’d pay the £25m we owe Man U just to not have him.
