Chelsea have won eight of their last ten meetings with Tottenham, including each of the last three, while Spurs are winless in eight visits to Stamford Bridge, winning there only once in 39 attempts since 1990.
Both were last in action 18 days ago and both were beaten in London derbies, meaning these two fierce rivals will be extra-motivated to claim victory in this always hotly-contested fixture.
Chelsea need to get their Champions League challenge back on track, following a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal, in which they accumulated a miserly xG of 0.36. This though was actually a fourth successive Premier League away defeat for Enzo Maresca's team, who are without a win in seven league outings on the road, dating back to their memorable 4-3 victory at Spurs in early-December.
During this period, the Blues have won four on the spin at Stamford Bridge, so start the week fourth, albeit they could be as low as seventh by the time this clash kicks off. Chelsea's final four fixtures this season are against Liverpool, Newcastle, Man United and Nottingham Forest, emphasising the importance of getting points on the board sooner rather than later.
Tottenham Hotspur meantime start the night a whopping 15 points worse off then their cross-city rivals, very much set for a first bottom-half finish in 17 seasons. As already alluded to, Ange Postecoglou's team were beaten again last time out, this time defeated 2-0 at Craven Cottage by Fulham, both goals coming in the final 12 minutes. Spurs did enjoy three successive victories in April but, overall, they've won only four of 17 league fixtures since 1 December, losing ten of these outings.
Thus, Tottenham's season is now all about the Europa League, set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their quarter-final tie next Thursday. In the league however, Spurs simply cannot continue losing week after week; one more defeat would represent their most in a single season since 2003/04. Given that fact, most make Chelsea firm favourites to prevail in this Thursday night clash at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer missed the defeat to Arsenal and England's two fixtures due to injury, but is expected to be back for this one, albeit Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu remain sidelined.
Elsewhere, Enzo Maresca could continue to deploy captain Reece James in midfield, with Pedro Neto used an an unorthodox centre-forward and Christopher Nkunku out-wide.
In goal, Robert Sánchez once again appears to be first-choice, ahead of Filip Jörgensen in the pecking order, for now. Lastly, Moisés Caicedo would sit out the Blues' next two league fixtures, against Brentford and Ipswich, if cautioned.
Chelsea predicted lineup vs Tottenham Hotspur: (4-3-3): Sánchez; Fofana, Badiashile, Colwill, Cucurella; James, Caicedo, Fernández; Palmer, Nkunku, Neto.
Despite having 14 Premier League goals to his name this season, Cole Palmer is ten outings without a goal in all competitions, albeit he has bagged three in three against Spurs, including a brace in the reverse fixture.
Ange Postecoglou will hope a near three-week break without a game can further ease his injury concerns, albeit Radu Drăgușin, Kevin Danso and Richarlison remain sidelined. As for Dejan Kuluševski, he hasn't been seen since 26 February due to a foot injury, but could return here.
Controversially, Postecoglou made seven outfield changes for the defeat to Fulham, having beaten AZ three days earlier, so it'll be interesting to see who he selects this time. Cristian Romero partnered Micky van de Ven for that Europa League win, doing so for the first time since Chelsea's visit in early-December, so will both be fit to start here too?
Lastly, in attack, Wilson Odobert's brace was integral in overcoming AZ Alkmaar, so will that earn him a start, with Brennan Johnson, Mathys Tel and club captain Son Heung-min the other options.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Chelsea: (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, van de Ven, Spence; Matar Sarr, Bergvall, Odobert, Maddison, Son Heung-min, Solanke.
Son Heung-min has 11 goals to his name this season, having bagged at least 14 in every campaign since 2015/16. The South Korean international has also only ever scored three times in 20 meetings with Chelsea, so can he improve that ratio.
As referenced earlier, we make Chelsea firm favourites to win this one at Stamford Bridge, given their strong home form, alongside Spurs' continued, at best, erratic results: Chelsea 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
