La Liga outfit Espanyol have identified one of the standout performers in Spain’s 2nd tier as a potential transfer target for next season.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Canal Sur, who point towards Álex Sala as the player in question.
Sala, for his part, is in the midst of something of a breakout campaign on the books of Córdoba in the Segunda Division.
The 23-year-old, capable of lining out in a variety of positions in midfield, has racked up 31 league appearances across the season to date.
And along the way, Sala has chipped in with an impressive 10 direct goal contributions (5G, 5A).
With such ongoing excellence, though, comes inevitable outside interest.
As per the aforementioned MD, Espanyol are one of a number of La Liga clubs interested in bringing the former Barcelona youth talent back to Spain’s top-flight this summer.
Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements in the middle of the park, the Pericos, it is understood, have earmarked Sala as the ideal profile.
It now remains to be seen if the brass in Catalunya are willing to meet the demands laid out by their counterparts at Córdoba.
