Chelsea host Legia Warsaw on Thursday night in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League quarter-final.

Chelsea continue in their quest to secure European silverware this season and possess a commanding lead in the tie after winning 3-0 in Poland last week. Whilst their Premier League form has dipped, they are looking to claim a tenth successive Conference League victory.

Injuries and doubts

Chelsea: Romeo Lavia (doubt), Wesley Fofana (out), Marc Guiu (out), Mykhaylo Mudryk (out)

Romeo Lavia has returned to training for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca has almost a full squad at his disposal. It is unlikely that he will need it tonight though and the Italian coach will be expected to rotate his team.

Legia Warsaw: Bartosz Kapustka (out), Marc Gual (out), Gabriel Kobylak (out)

Legia’s task is made even harder by the absence of key players. With Bartosz Kapustka and Marc Gual sidelined, they are missing their two top scorers across all competitions.

Chelsea have drawn their last two Premier League matches in disappointing fashion against bottom-half opposition. This has seen them start to lose ground in the race for Champions League qualification and they have slipped down to sixth place. Despite this, they have remained imperious in the Conference League. It would be real shock if they did not at least reach the final of this competition.

Legia are down in fifth place in the Polish Ekstraklasa, which is a poor season by their standards. The Polish side have won just one of their last five in the competition, losing the other four.

Ahead of the match, Chelsea boss Maresca has called on fans to get behind his side: “With our fans we are a better team, stronger.

“I think football belongs to the fans. As a team, when your fans support you, it’s important because the players can see that feeling. We need to be good enough to engage them.”

Chelsea defender Malo Gusto agreed: “For sure we need the fans and we need to show on that pitch that we are Chelsea and we are going to win everything.”

Following his side’s defeat in the first leg, Legia manager Goncalo Feio conceded: “Big respect to Chelsea, a team that dominated us today in various aspects.”
