Rivals meet again just weeks after a thrilling 2-2 draw at Goodison Park in which four red cards were shown after the final whistle
Liverpool host Everton tonight in the latest instalment of the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The first game back following the international break will be a tricky one for both sides as they contest one of English football’s more vitriolic rivalries after a fortnight off.
Before the Premier League was paused in early March, Liverpool suffered a particularly difficult week, crashing out of the Champions League on penalties at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain before then losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle at Wembley.
Everton, on the other hand, have drawn four straight matches against Manchester United, Brentford, Wolves and West Ham.
The reverse fixture in February was among the most tense derbies in recent memory as Everton, desperate to bid a fitting farewell to Goodison Park in their final season at the historic stadium, left it late to rescue a point.
James Tarkowski’s emphatic 98th-minute volley drew them level at 2-2 and triggered jubilant celebration around the ground before four red cards were shown in chaotic scenes after the final whistle, including to Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
This latest edition of the derby seems set to bring equal drama as David Moyes prepares his side to go toe-to-toe with Slot’s team for the second time in a matter of weeks.
