Brazilian football legend Cafu has heaped praise upon Manchester City and Egypt forward Omar Marmoush, who has made a fast start to life at the Etihad Stadium following his £59 million arrival from Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
Marmoush was signed in January to bolster a depleted and lacklustre attack after Manchester City’s sales of Riyad Mahrez, Cole Palmer and Julian Alvarez in the last two years left them short of goals with the exception of talisman Erling Haaland.
The 26-year-old has already impressed in the sky blue shirt and scored a first-half hat-trick in a stylish 4-0 win over Newcastle in the Premier League in February, with the Egyptian also netting a crucial winner in the FA Cup quarter-final to take City to Wembley.
Manchester City took a giant step towards securing UEFA Champions League football for the 2025-26 campaign in midweek as an injury time Matheus Nunes winner saw Pep Guardiola’s men secure a 2-1 win against Aston Villa to climb up to third place in the league table.
The Premier League champions are four games remaining to secure a top five finish in the Premier League but margin for error is as slim as it gets for the 2023 treble winners, who have won four of their last five games in all competitions.
Marmoush has largely operated down the middle for City in April after Haaland injured his ankle in the FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth, which will keep the Norwegian out of action for another few weeks.
However, Marmoush is proving to be a capable stand-in for Haaland and his January arrival to the Etihad Stadium has recently drawn praise from Brazilian legend Cafu, who relayed his excitement over the Manchester City forward’s impact on Arab football.
“Omar Marmoush’s presence at Manchester City is a clear sign of how much football has evolved — especially Arab football. He’s a top player at a top club like Man City, a team that shines on every level. I’m sure he’ll achieve great success there and bring so much joy to the Egyptian people,” Cafu told Ismael Mahmoud.
