Alessandro Bastoni and Nicolo Barella were in the starting line-up last night as Italy lost 2-1 to Germany at the San Siro.
Per Tuttosport via FCInterNews, the Inter Milan stars experienced contrasting fortunes on their stomping ground.
Indeed, Alessandro Bastoni failed to meet expectations as Luciano Spalletti changed his position at the 11th hour.
The 25-year-old started as a central defender in Italy’s back three and couldn’t settle in a new role.

Simone Inzaghi has often deployed Bastoni as a left center-back in his three-man backline.
Furthermore, he has recently used the ex-Atalanta defender as a left wingback to compensate for Federico Dimarco’s absence.
Therefore, Bastoni’s underwhelming display came as a little surprise.
Indeed, he had almost no time to adapt to this new position.
On the other hand, Barella went from strength to strength, especially in the first half.
The former Cagliari midfielder pulled all the strings in the engine room.
However, he ran out of steam in the second half, allowing Jamal Musiala to slip his mark.
