Defender Alessandro Bastoni “never gave an inch” in yesterday’s Champions League draw between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, hailed the 26-year-old heroics in the 2-2 thriller.

Inter Milan certainly needed a lot from their back three yesterday against Bayern.

The Nerazzurri faced nothing short of an onslaught against the Bavarians.

Therefore, Inter required all of the focus and physicality from their defenders. And Bastoni had a particularly difficult assignment, marking former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.

But Alessandro Bastoni proved to be up to the task.

The Italian international kept Olise about as quiet as would have been possible.

Then, when Bayern managed to reach the Inter penalty area, Bastoni popped up with some key blocks and clearances.

It was very much like the 26-year-old’s performance in the first leg in that regard. He put his body on the line.

Then, going forward, Bastoni offered plenty as he would get into the channel around the Bayern penalty area to link up with Federico Dimarco, Francesco Acerbi, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
