Manchester City’s charity, City in the Community (CITC) hosted an event for prospective BTEC students at Failsworth sports ground, which saw grassroot football clubs compete against each other in a tournament.

Year 10 and 11 pupils from clubs across Greater Manchester had the chance to learn more about what the BTEC course had to offer while getting involved in some friendly competition between local teams.

George West, CITC Community Coach, explained about the day and why it was important.

“Today was about bringing local community teams together, showcasing our BTEC course allowing students from local teams to get a feel for our college programme,” he said.

“Days like this are important because it allows the local community to come down and see what CITC has to offer through the BTEC.

“The BTEC course is fantastic for anyone looking for a job in the sport industry. We create pathways for those that want to try and make a career in the game, whatever level that may be.”

Ethan, a student who played in the tournament explained why he has chosen the BTEC course.

“When I move on to college, I want to carry on playing football, but I would also love to do coaching, and I can do that on this course,” he said.

“That’s why I decided to sign up to do the BTEC course because I think it will be a really good opportunity.”

“It's been good finding out information about careers and development, it’s also great in half term to keep them occupied keep up the sports and develop the social skills.”

CITC’s BTEC course is delivered in colleges across Greater Manchester, offering places to both male and female participants without trails.

Coaches deliver a holistic education of football, supporting those who want to develop their skills and abilities on the pitch as well as receiving classroom-based education as well.

The programme provides an opportunity for students who are passionate about football and their education, to combine the two as part of this course.
