Liverpool 1 Newcastle 2 – Sunday 16 March 4.30pm
Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
‘NO WORDS… but I’ll try!
Was asked might it feel like an anti-climax if we do finally do it, well from behind the tears I can say no anti-climax, what an amazing almost indescribable feeling and what a privilege to have been there.
I was thinking of all those who sadly are no longer around as we lifted the trophy what an emotion 🙂
The big question of whether we would turn up in a final for once was well and truly answered, can’t think of a player who was below an 8 out of 10 and I could have given a few 11 !!
Memories that will last a lifetime, thank you Newcastle United for finally making a dream come true in such a wonderful way.
Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey:
‘I can’t lie. I had a few tears when the whistle went.
Three things:
BDB immense and what a goal
Trips MOTM
Goals pay the rent and Isak does his share.’
Greg McPeake:
‘Man of the match Dan Burn.
My lad said in his last article Dan Burn wants it more than anyone. He did.
We had them from the kick off and they were never in it until the goal that created nerves at the end.
But we saw it out.
Magnificent’
Billy Miller:
‘Part of me is lost for words.
The dominant part of me says: astonishing, magnificent, miraculous… life changing.
I didn’t get tickets but I got to spend the day watching the match with my partner, children and mother and it was an experience that I will treasure for the rest of my days.
I thought long and hard about whether I should encourage my kids to be Newcastle fans during the dark days of Mike Ashley. Why should they endure what I was destined to?
Now they’re supporting a trophy winning team and I am certain they will have many more days like this.
I’m not sure any can ever be as special as this one though, 70 years of hurt no more.’
Tony Mallabar:
‘Gerry and the Pacemakers, Cilla Black, John Bishop, Steve Bunting, The ferry across de Mersey, your boys took one hell over a beating.
Joking apart, the first message I received after full time was off my best mate Marty (he’s a Liverpool season ticket holder), wishing me all the best and showing a lot of humility in defeat.
“Now in the words of Prince, it’s time to party like it’s 1999.’
Bazoox:
‘Newcastle United were far the better side.
Two great goals.
Our manager Eddie is now a Legend.
The team were magnificent.’
Mark Jankowski:
‘We did it.
Decades of nearly and almost, now put in the rear view.
Finally, we’ve got that monkey off our back.
This is only the beginning.
Savour tonight, live for tomorrow.
Howay the lads!’
