Liverpool centre-back Virgil Van Dijk is in the final year of his contract but has remained tight-lipped regarding his situation.

However, according to L’Equipe, the Dutch international defender is mulling over a big-money approach from Saudi Pro League (SPL) club Al-Hilal.

Van Dijk is one of three key Liverpool players who could leave for free this summer, alongside Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Even though he reportedly wants to stay at Anfield, the club has yet to make a suitable offer.

The SPL wants to add more quality as it bids to raise its profile, and Van Dijk would be a fantastic coup.

Reigning champions Al-Hilal face a fierce fight to retain the title, with Al-Ittihad sitting four points clear at the summit.

Al-Hilal have conceded more goals than the rest of the top five, and if there is one man who can help improve that record, it is the Liverpool defender.

Van Dijk would be a superb addition to the club. He would pair with former Chelsea and Napoli man Kalidou Koulibaly to form arguably the most formidable defence in the SPL.

It is unclear whether Van Dijk will choose to move to the Middle East or stay in Europe. He will likely get more offers to consider.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Luis Campos spoke to him after Liverpool’s Champions League exit, leading to rumours of a transfer to the Ligue 1 behemoths.

Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich could also enter the race. However, the riches on offer in the Middle East could be too tempting to ignore.
