Harvey Elliott was involved in training with the England Under-21s despite suffering a nasty knock in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
Elliott was seen limping after the game and on his way out of the stadium after a collision with Joelinton.
But after being called up to the England U21 squad over the international break, Elliott took part in team training and could be involved when they face France and Portugal.
Elliott was a substitute in the final, coming on for Luis Diaz in the 74th minute and set up Federico Chiesa’s late goal to make it 2-1.
Despite his limited opportunities, he has been in fine form for the Reds of late, scoring the winner in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg against Paris St-Germain and is currently averaging a goal involvement every 97 minutes.
He has made just four starts this season in all competitions, none of which have come in the Premier League.
The attacking midfielder has been frustrated by injury this season too, missing two months with a broken foot between September and November.
Boss Arne Slot has lauded the 21-year-old’s impact in his short time on the pitch this season, saying after the game first-leg against PSG: “I can understand that he is sometimes frustrated by the playing time he gets because he is a good player, he showed at Liverpool already that he is a good player, but he is in competition for players that I hardly take off.
“So, Dominik Szoboszlai is always the one that just keeps on going, he also scores goals but he’s so important for us with all the running he does. And yeah, Mo Salah I think is quite key for everyone as well. So, he has to do it with limited playing time but he just keeps on going.
“I have to give him big compliments for that and also my staff because they keep working with him and every time come up with great exercises so he stays fit. But it wasn’t only Harvey, it was also the one who assisted, Darwin Nunez, who came from a difficult two games but was absolutely there again tonight because from the moment he came in we were more of a threat than before.”
Liverpool return to action after the international break against Everton, looking to move one step close to wrapping up the Premier League title.
