Manchester City’s extravagant splurge on new players during the winter transfer window raised plenty of eyebrows in the football world.
An underwhelming season prompted City to splash the cash on several new arrivals, including forward Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian star was linked with Liverpool, but City’s recent track record of winning silverware and a bumper salary proved too tempting.
Marmoush looks to be a shrewd addition and Liverpool may regret not securing his services.
Marmoush’s 14-minute hat-trick against Newcastle United in February inevitably sparked plenty of excitement amongst Man City fans.
His direct running and clever movement have repeatedly caught the eye, and his signing could tip the balance of power back towards City.
Marmoush is versatile enough to play in several attacking positions, making him an ideal addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The same point undoubtedly applies to Liverpool, whose attacking options need a shake-up due to their overreliance on Mohamed Salah.
If Salah leaves Liverpool this summer, their failure to pursue a move for Marmoush will look even more questionable.
The battle of London’s underachievers takes centre stage tonight as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge.
