Even though Rasmus Hojlund ended his 20-game goalless drought last Sunday, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim will know the pitfalls of starting yet another season with only the Dane up top.

This is why the Red Devils are keeping tabs on multiple strikers across Europe with Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres among the top targets.

But the Swede wants Champions League football while the Nigerian’s wage demands could scupper a potential move to Old Trafford given INEOS’ current financial difficulties.

As a result, the co-owners are preparing a list of cost-effective options and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is a striker who has impressed Amorim.

Amorim wants Delap

Despite a poor campaign for the Tractor Boys, the ex-Manchester City starlet has impressed one and all and has scored 10 times in the English top-flight while also registering a couple of assists.

Jason Wilcox knows all about him which is why he is pushing for the 22-year-old’s signing but Chelsea are reportedly in the race for his signature.

City, who hold a buyback option, are unlikely to bring him back, which has handed the advantage to the Blues but Teamtalk have now revealed that fierce rivals Liverpool are planning to hijack the deal.

“Ipswich Town star Liam Delap will be at the centre of a fierce transfer battle this summer as Chelsea face stiff competition from two Premier League rivals for his signature, with Liverpool taking steps ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Liverpool planning hijack

“Chelsea have shortlisted him as a key target as Enzo Maresca looks to add more competition for Nicolas Jackson. Sources state, however, that Chelsea may face competition from Liverpool and Manchester United, who are also big admirers of Delap.

“Sources state that Delap ticks all the boxes for Liverpool and they have made contact to establish his plans for the future. Arne Slot’s side could part ways with Darwin Nunez this summer, who will need replacing.”

Delap, described as a monster, could cost around £40 million but should Kieran McKenna’s side go down, he could be signed for a cut-price fee, which should suit INEOS.

Ideally, the three-time European winners should sign an experienced head alongside the options at their disposal with fans eager to see who ultimately joins.
