Liverpool Face Fresh Ryan Gravenberch Injury Concern Ahead of Everton Clash

Liverpool’s preparations for their upcoming Merseyside derby against Everton have taken a hit with Ryan Gravenberch returning from international duty early due to injury. The Dutch midfielder, who has been instrumental for the Reds this season, sustained a knock during the Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

Gravenberch’s Growing Influence at Liverpool

Since arriving at Anfield, Gravenberch has steadily grown into a pivotal figure in Liverpool’s midfield under the guidance of his compatriot Arne Slot. The 22-year-old has thrived this season, playing a key role in a side that looks set to win the Premier League title.

He started in Sunday’s dramatic Carabao Cup final at Wembley but was withdrawn in the latter stages, making way for eventual goalscorer Federico Chiesa. While there were no immediate concerns, the Netherlands squad has since confirmed that Gravenberch’s injury has ruled him out of their Nations League quarter-final fixtures against Spain.

Netherlands Confirm Midfielder’s Early Exit

A statement from the Dutch national team on Wednesday night confirmed the decision:

“Ryan Gravenberch has left the Oranje’s training camp this evening. The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend that prevents him from playing in the matches against Spain. Take care, Ryan!”

Initially, Gravenberch had linked up with Ronald Koeman’s squad ahead of their two-legged quarter-final, but concerns over his condition led to his early return to Liverpool for further assessment.

Liverpool’s Midfield Options Amid Injury Worries

With Gravenberch now a doubt for Everton’s visit to Anfield on April 2, Liverpool may need to reshuffle their midfield. Harvey Elliott, who also suffered a minor knock against Newcastle, was seen training with England’s Under-21s, suggesting he could be in contention to step in if needed. Curtis Jones, another reliable option, could also play a prominent role alongside Wataru Endo.

Liverpool’s injury concerns extend beyond the midfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold remains sidelined with an ankle issue sustained in the Champions League last-16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain, while defenders Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley are also recovering from hamstring problems. Tyler Morton, another midfield prospect, is still undergoing rehabilitation following shoulder surgery.

What It Means for Liverpool’s Title Run

Gravenberch’s availability for the Everton fixture remains uncertain, but his absence would be a significant blow as Liverpool continue their relentless push for silverware. His energy and technical ability have been vital to Slot’s high-intensity style, making his potential absence a concern in such a crucial period of the season.
