Recruitment officials at the Etihad Stadium could turn their attentions to Spain as the search for a new goalkeeper arrivals intensifies.

Manchester City are bracing themselves for a number of high profile changes this summer in various positions within Pep Guardiola’s squad, as club bosses look to return the first-team back to its competitive best following a challenging season.

Among the positions being placed under the microscope are full-back, central midfield, and the creative midfield departments, while exits could yet dictate where else Manchester City will need to reinvest.

One such role is goalkeeper as Ederson is understood to be open to the idea of a change in his career, while Stefan Ortega Moreno’s pursuit of a secure number one role between the posts could force him to take on a new challenge elsewhere in Europe.

Either shot-stopper leaving the Etihad Stadium would no doubt require top-level investment from Manchester City officials, and while much of the talk has centred around FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, it seems as though attentions could turn to Spain.

That is according to the information of ESPN’s Rob Dawson, who reveals that Manchester City scouts have also ‘closely monitored’ Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García, who has a release clause in his current contract worth €25 million.

The 23-year-old is unlikely to only be attracting attention from Manchester City however, with the belief in various quarters being that Premier League interest could heat up over the coming weeks, with Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Arsenal among possible suitors.

For now, it remains to be seen where Garcia could rank in Manchester City’s own goalkeeper shortlist, particularly given the intensity to which Diogo Costa has been spoken of in some reports, with others claiming that the 25-year-old has agreed to the idea of a move already.

Manchester City will also need to rectify the future of long-standing veteran third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson, who remains out of contract this summer but has agreed to 12-month extensions multiple times in the past.
