Manchester United head to the San Mames Stadium tonight to take on Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-finals.
With the tournament’s final set to be hosted at the same venue, the Red Devils will hope this is not their last trip to the Basque Country this season.
Ruben Amorim’s team progressed past Lyon in the last eight, following a phenomenal comeback at Old Trafford. United trailed 4-2 in extra time to the French side, before mounting an improbable late fightback to win 5-4.
Amorim will be hoping his team can continue their unbeaten record in Europe this season, which has contrasted a difficult domestic campaign.
Athletic Club have their sights set on a home European final. The Spanish side ended a 40-year trophy drought to win the Copa del Rey last season and are now targeting a maiden European title. Athletic have twice been runners-up in this competition, including during the 2011/12 campaign. That season included an elimination of Manchester United.
Amad Diallo’s return to training this week is a huge boost for Manchester United, while Matthijs de Ligt has also rejoined the group after a recent absence. Neither are expected to start in Spain this evening but could come into contention for the second leg.
United remain without Joshua Zirkzee and Lisandro Martinez, whose seasons are over. Ayden Heaven, Diogo Dalot and Toby Collyer are also sidelined for the Premier League side.
Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw, Dorgu; Casemiro, Ugarte; Garnacho, Fernandes, Hojlund.
